Every year, the Prime Minister of India commemorates this auspicious occasion by hoisting the Indian flag at the
Red Fort
, followed by addressing the nation-- a tradition which first began when India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru gave his iconic speech 'A Tryst With Destiny' on this day in 1947.
